The #1 thing holding you back from building muscle?

Published: Sun, 06/07/15

Regardless of your fitness goals, you need to be strong.

Strength Coach, Eric Cressey, once used an analogy of a cup with water in it.

The size of the cup dictates your maximum strength - if you're stronger, the cup is bigger.

The water inside the cup is your muscular potential, fat loss potential, speed, and endurance.

One day, the cup gets full.

What do you do next?

The only thing you can do to progress is to increase the size of the cup - by getting stronger.

You see, I was talking with fellow coaches Jason Maxwell and Mike Samuels the other day about this exact topic.

These guys are SMART.

Jason is a Rocket Scientist.

Literally...

He's a trained Rocket Scientist turned fitness professional.

Mike is an expert in lifting heavy things, and holds the Under 23 bench press record for South East, England.Talk to any reputable coach and they’ll all convince you that you need to be strong if you ever want to truly be happy with your physique… regardless of your age.

If you're not strong, it's hard to build muscle.

After all, building muscle requires lifting heavy weights.

Who do you think will have a bigger chest: the guy who benches 135 lbs, or the guy who benches 275 lbs?

The answer is obvious.

Secondly, if you're not strong, it's harder to lose fat.

What do you think burns more calories: squatting 135 lbs for 10 reps, or squatting 225 lbs for 10 reps?

Again, the answer is obvious.

Basically, if you're not happy with how you look, then strength is the missing factor.

And this statement holds true whether you’re 25 or 55 years old. I'm sorry to say it, but it's the truth.

But what's the best way to get stronger?

I'll answer that tomorrow.  Same time, same place.

P.S.Tomorrow we’ll discuss the best way to get stronger…
