Hope you had a nice
weekend,
READY FOR "PEAK WEEK"?
I titled this email "Athlete Meeting" and I always toss around the idea of what we call ourselves in
fitness shows and/or contests.
Plus I
will include the Athlete Meeting Agenda below.
Do you consider yourself "Athlete", "Competitor" or "Contestant"? Or all 3?
The most commonly used word is "competitor" and it's kinda strange since no other sport
has athletes call themselves competitor. Who started that?
Are you competing??? Or are you just reaching your goal?
Think about the largest classes in these "contests" and those classes are Bikini regardless of
the federations.
I think if it's really correct we should say Contestants in a
Show.
I just think we would get more people into shows instead of contests.
Contest sounds pretty extreme right?
Yesterday I was talking with a Contest Prep Coach (see once again "contest")
and this person said if this coach's athlete wasn't
ready that this person would tell them NOT to enter.
Then the coach asked how I felt about that?
My answer was - It depends on the person (athlete, client, competitor).
I've worked out with guys who were very extreme and took every "supplement" in the
world (you know what I mean... juiced to the max.)
...and I've also trained clients who went from 36% fat to 6% and went into a show in the
Master's Division and got 4th place and become very upset over 4th completely forgetting what they
accomplished in a short
time.
More and more every year I think about accomplishments and being proud of what you did.
If you think about even the most extreme contest being the Mr Olympia two years ago they did
a special invite to Kevin Levrone who was 51 years old and had stopped lifting for years.
He went and got himself into really good shape and went into the show. Now because
everyone knew his back story and his 6 month transformation he was a crowd favorite. If
you didn't know the story you may have questioned the reason he was up on stage without
qualifying like the others had to do... It was inspirational
and the crowd loved it. Was Kevin in contest shape? He was but not competitively enough to actually win.
Guess what they did this past year... They did a special invite to Flex Wheeler - same deal.
He didn't win yet the crowd loves a good comeback.
Did those guys
belong on stage? Yes and No because it depends on how you look at it.
Okay onto the schedule....
Fitness Atlantic Schedule really starts the Friday morning with Spray tanning.
Spray tanning will be done on Friday before the show at Mohegan Sun.
You can go to the Get Glowing website here:
You will get an appointment for spray tanning from Get Glowing.
After you are tanned shoot right up the elevator to your room if staying at the hotel.
Do not walk through the hotel or casino in a bikini or swimsuit.
We also ask that contestants do not become too dark. One or at the most two coats is adequate as judges would rather see you lighter than darker. The goal is to not look like we all
have fake tans and to have contestants look their very best.
Registration is held from 3PM until 7PM - it actually stops at 7PM.
Our Athlete Meeting is held from 7PM until about 8PM then you are free to go.
Let's do this!
