Good
Morning,
The email I wrote the other day with the title Positive Negativity and a lot of people read it.
As the deadline to enter Fitness Atlantic 2018 is days away it may not really make a difference
that I write about the people who are still undecided but more about the people who are skipping the event
all-together.
Why? When people seemed to praise the show do they skip it this year?
I just struggle with Fitness Coaches who are kinda sour negative people.
Why are they so sour?
Because they only focus on how clients
place in a show and not on the results the clients achieved.
For example:
Client #1 - lost 20 lbs - 10% bodyfat - placed 5th (LOSER - soured client)
Clients #2 - Lost 10lbs - female under 12% fat - (LOSER - needs therapy)
What is going on here??? These
people didn't LOSE. Nothing BAD happened to them.
That becomes unhealthy - clients should never need to go see a psychologist after a show.
For example when someone enters the show for the 1st time
and places 3rd and says the trainer tells the person that they should have been 2nd
and the trainer and client are sour about it - that bothers me. I can't get over that.
Even before that way back in the day I had a guy enter the show who only has one leg and he was concerned we wouldn't allow him enter the show. I said sure let's go! Two things happened - the guy with a fake leg places 2nd and the winner of the show a week later fails a drug test making
the guy with one leg the winner. He is now not happy because he won the title due to the other guy failing the drug test. Then the 3rd place guy calls me up and tells me that there is no way he should have placed 3rd due to the symmetry round. Nobody was happy I couldn't win.
People struggle with the results of these shows.
We have no control over who will show up
and get on stage.
One more quick story - Guy in the gym comes up to me and says "I will have you train me if you promise I can win." I said back I can't promise that. He gets a trainer and dieted like crazy and looked like a skeleton and he went into a show and in his class one or two other guys were in it. He won the trophy but everyone that saw him outside the show thought he was really sick. He looked so unhealthy. In my mind
he won on stage but not in life - he looked terrible.
I just think it is about really getting in shape and the body of your dreams.
Using a show as a goal to be the best you can be.
I understand people want to enter a show to feel good about the hard work they did. Many people are competitive and want to win.
People also want to be able to brag about what they accomplished.
We don't control what will happen on stage and if we get a winning trophy or not.
Don't let coaches tell you "You won't be ready. Wait, I know a really small event you can enter that you will be guaranteed a Pro
Card."
Ready for what? Ready to WIN?
You won't be ready to win a Pro Card - find a smaller event? Hold up...
Chill Out Coach - so you are saying you only train winners so that they can be added to your coach resume? On the flip side coaches may say, "Brian just wants everyone
to enter his show even if they are not ready." Well, the truth is I want people to get better year after year - I want people to START and get on stage and each year be BETTER than the year before.
Stopping people isn't helping anyone.
Wouldn't you agree that a personal trainer would get even more clients if they focused on the results the clients have
achieved? Coaches that only try to build a resume of names of clients that won shows doesn't lead to great long term results. Eventually their client list becomes smaller and smaller.
When people progressively get better year after year they do this for themselves.
True winners know the best trophy is your body.
There are way too many reasons to quit doing anything we don't need to be reminded of them.
Stay the course,
Brian
PS, Below is a video of my FAVORITE division in the show.
Transformation is about CHANGE.
It is NOT a contest trying to beat other people.
Take a couple minutes and watch the
video.
