Good Morning,
Over the next three weeks prep for the Fitness Atlantic should be in full force!
This is it.
Three more weeks and you are there.
There is a quote that says, "There is no finish line." that has to do with fitness goals.
Thing is for us - April 14th is
it.
Sometimes people get nervous and nerves can really mess you up.
Think about this. "We are our own worst critics!"
If you can stay calm it actually helps your results.
I really feel that a
lot of the pressure comes from the "contest" part of the show.
People worry about winning.
Most times we have no control of the outcome as we never know who will show up.
I remember one of my best 12 week preps back in 1998. I was doing a gym opening pre-sale
and during that 3 months I sat in a trailer doing memberships. I worked out early and then the
rest of my day was sitting at a desk in a trailer in a parking lot. I had a small refrigerator and microwave. I have zero distractions as I sat there with a gallon water jug and waited for people to show up and inquire about this new gym.
Not every year
went that way. In normal life we get distractions, set backs, and things get in the way.
One of the things people prepping for shows didn't do back in 1998 was "show off" before a show.
Almost all people preparing for a show covered up and we have no Facebook or Instagram.
A lot of people didn't even have an
email back in 1998.
We just never took selfies and posted them anyplace so this way you didn't get people with opinions.
It was more of a mentality of keep a sweatshirt on and the day of the show is when you show
your hard work off to the world.
While in
prep I had many more days of looking in the mirror thinking to myself that I wasn't going to be ready then the days I woke up to a new vein in my arm and looking vascular and shredded.
Nowadays we just watch people post away on Instagram and Facebook and compare ourselves to others way before the show.
Most times the finished product isn't ready for people to see until the
day you are on stage.
I remember the days I was low-carb and flat. Then I'd eat some carbs and go workout and if I
ever did take my sweatshirt off and had a string tank top on it was pretty crazy. People would
look at me and ask what I was "on". Even so I never took photos of these times and I know today
I'd likely judge myself and think I wasn't as good as I thought I looked back then.
So in today's email I'm trying to write that you should never discredit your effort and lose confidence.
Many people look at themselves now and think that in 3 more weeks nothing is going to happen
and that they can't
get better and they think they should just drop out or quit.
I you over-think the contest part of the show isn't for you then consider Transformation.
I love this division. I keep telling people Transformation IS NOT a contest against others.
Basically we pick 5 people to shoot with Status Fitness Magazine.
The 5 we pick are not placed they are equals.
This year we are picking 10 people - 5 short term and 5 long term.
All of the contestants get a medallion and we tell their short story - everyone wins!
It is a standing ovation every show!
Hope to see you soon,
Brian
