Good Morning,
A friend of mine told me he did some research and that found out that most people that want to lose weight don't think of joining a gym - they think they have to first focus on losing weight.
He said they first look to lose weight and then AFTER they lost a certain amount of weight think of joining a gym. We all know how diet centers work - most don't work.
He explained the theory with the research percentages and fancy stuff.
It is understandable. Most people are self conscious.
Think of it... If someone feels overweight they are usually not comfortable enough to go where the fit people are exercising and they don't feel they belong.
It is the same with these fitness shows.
So many people think they are not ready and don't want to enter until they think they "look like others" who would be on stage.
People always think they will be laughed at or make a fool of themselves yet that usually never happens. It seems like an excuse not to even try.
Michael Koch was over 300 pounds when he started at a local gym with his trainer Winston Clarke at New Body Transformation Center.
Michael and Winston worked with the show at Mohegan Sun as a goal.
We as fitness people understand it isn't about the scale but eating and training correctly to drop fat pounds and build muscle.
Too many people go to a weight loss center until the follow the scale and think they need to be "in-shape" before joining a gym.
The gym should be where people go first but they just don't. People just don't feel that gyms are the right place to go for weight loss and I didn't make that up.
Transformation Challenge at Fitness Atlantic is a great way for gyms and trainers to use a a goal for clients. A goal is such a motivator.
People do not have to have "extreme" transformations either... Sure Michael lost over 100 pounds over time but couple years ago one female contestant Jennifer weighed exactly the same at the end of her transformation.
Please try not to think you are not "in-shape" enough to get on stage and just work hard and focus on the results.
