One of the recent emails I sent out was about budgeting expenses.
The subject line asked - Is Competing Expensive?
Besides Entry Fee and Spray Tanning you have choices.
If people choose to pay $1000 a month on a coach that is on them and by choice. This is the same with the swimsuit, theme wear, or evening gown some people over-spend on these.
Now to add to this is photography.
So
many photographers want to shoot fitness models.
Let me restate that line...
So many photographers want to CHARGE fitness models for photo shoots.
Most photo shoots will range from
$350-$1000 depending on the time and looks you do (clothing changes, hair and make up, etc) and how many times can a fitness model drop money on doing shoots?
If a fitness model is going to shoot with a photographer that normally shoots weddings and now jumping into fitness it is likely you are simply shooting for your Facebook page? You must consider many things before
shooting.
1. Read the Photo Release Form - OR type your own Photo Release Form and make the photographer sign it and add that they cannot watermark the images and they cannot share your images on their Facebook pages and tag you out like crazy to build their business.
2. Add to your
Photo Release Form that you will receive ALL raw images and the you own the rights to do whatever you wish with these images. You can submit them to magazines and for posters and you do not need to provide photo credit for the images.
If a photographer shoots your images and you do not sign a release form you just paid for the time of that shoot. Where is your contract of how many edited
images you will receive? When will you receive these by? What happens to the rest of the images?
One of the biggest ego trips there could be is when a photographer asks you to shoot! But why are they going to comp you a free shoot? Maybe you have lots of followers and it will build their business?
We have a very special opportunity for contestants entering WBFF Fitness Atlantic.
Rodney Jang, David Ford and Ali Sohrab of Status Fitness Magazine will be at the show meeting everyone and taking tons of media coverage.
Having a legitimate crew from a published magazine attend this event is a great opportunity for everyone
involved.
If anyone approaches you about doing a photo shoot and they do not have a Fitness Atlantic Media Badge they are not on the "official team" and do not have credentials to shoot at this event. We have come across many guys with cameras who show up with business cards or even books of images they may have taken and solicit contestants for
shoots.
Listen, we understand how awesome it feels to have someone ask you to shoot!
It feels really good to have someone message you and say how great you look. They even offer to do your photos for free. Thing is... they usually have an angle. Most of the time they shoot for free until they build up a following then they
charge others or you never see them again.
There are a thousand of wannabe fitness photographers with giant water marks and tagging everyone they shoot. It doesn't mean they don't take some decent pictures but they want to shoot you for free and it feels awesome but it is not.
We do not use anyone else's images for
any promotional use and they will never be published by us.
We also cannot help you if you don't ever receive your images from anyone other than our media team.
Some of them shoot great images and some of their packages may sound cheaper (or free) but you may not realize the
limitations of shooting with anyone other than our team.
We have heard horror stories about people trying to use images they paid for yet they get in trouble from the photographer if they try to use them for a image banner or try to publish them. If you are not shooting with our team you are completely on your own.
We have a very solid team working the show which
includes Rodney, David and Ali from Status, Joel Sheveck who shoots for our Facebook page and Jon Gallo who interviews everyone for our Video Team. On Sunday John Ryan shoots all of the Shaun T images.
Everyone in the show will receive a copy of the latest Status magazine at registration and have the opportunity to meet the Status team. Rodney will also speak at the athlete meeting and answer any questions
you may.
Stage Photography by is by David Ford and team!
Due to the quality of the show Status Fitness Magazine has been
more and more involved each year.
It isn't often that this level of professionalism is offered for photography service at just any show.
Status can get press passes to cover any event in the world including the largest shows (and even any UFC event) yet luckily for us they chose to make Fitness
Atlantic one of the events they come to each year. That really means a lot and should mean something special to all of the athletes in the show as well.
