Action Steps

Hi,

When it comes to reaching fitness goals like entering a show
the most important thing isn't figuring out who else is entering
and if you are going to win or not - thinking about that before
you even start prep usually will only mess you up.

Before you even think about winning a show you need to figure out
how long it will take you to get into contest shape and do something
about it.

First focus on yourself and get into the best shape of your life.
I like to say at that point you already won because without the
drive you'd likely be sitting at home watching TV most nights...

The goal is extremely important. There is no motivation without the goal.

Goals are like dreams and if you don't do anything about that goal it's
just a thought.

You need weekly focus and check-ins to hold you accountable.

For instance here is a countdown to WBFF Fitness Atlantic at Mohegan Sun:

This is dated backwards from the show back...

Saturday April 29th 2017 - Show
Sunday April 16th
Sunday April 9th - 2 weeks out workshop
Sunday April 2nd
Sunday March 26 - 4 weeks out workshop
Sunday March 19th
Sunday March 12th - 6 weeks out workshop
Sunday March 5th
Sunday Feb 26th - 8 weeks out workshop
Sunday Feb 19th
Sunday Feb 12th - 10 weeks out workshop
Sunday Feb 5th
Sunday Jan 29th - 12 weeks out workshop

The Connecticut Workshops are every other Sunday from 12 weeks out.

If you live too far away to attend these workshops you can save the dates for
checking in yourself or a trainer or coach local to you.

Some other states hold workshops as well - MA, NY, and RI

It's important to think about the start dates early.

Back before we all used email daily I used to print and mail a show postcard.
I sent the show postcard out in either October or November and my friend Todd would always
tell me I send way too early - and every year I would answer him with this:

In December everyone is thinking about the holidays and their mailboxes
are jammed up with sale stuff about Christmas. Sending mail in December is a mess.
Everyone's mail box is loaded in December and January is too late because if most
people don't start Prep in January they'll miss it and won't have enough time to prep.

You need to get the goal mentally in your head now. Start on time. Then be progressive
and make changes and adjustments weekly.

Last thing you want is to try and play catch up and go into a show knowing you
could have been better because you started too late. People back out all the time.
