People get angry
over a lot of things…
People get angry and hate CrossFit while so many people do it and it is incredibly successful yet they feel the training is bad form.
People get mad over Planet Fitness and the Lunk Alarm yet they have over 1,000 successful gyms open and they don’t like that they removed all the weights.
I could see the Planet thing and people being upset because their advertising makes fun of weight lifters but
CrossFitters don’t really bother anyone.
Yet today someone wrote on my Facebook wall a pretty rotten message and I took it hard.
Some changes are the natural bodybuilding turned into a division called Muscle Model and the fitness division turned into Diva Fitness Model. The event also grew from a high school auditorium to the best destination resort in the northeast to Mohegan Sun. (This person said that the people are fake
and it is strictly for business.)
The thing I look at is the audience also grew to where the event sold out a week in advance, which is a thing I never heard of happening with a fitness show. (Many people just still like it?)
Not everyone likes that – it makes him or her angry and they want it to stay the way it was.
It's hard to explain the show - most people still think it's
bodybuilding...
Last week a fitness coach wrote me about a workshop and it was marketed for “All Federations” and asked if I had material to send for the camp. I tried my best to explain that sending people to the Pre-Show Report is best as the event details are in a 30 or so page document explaining everything. Then I did my best to explain that this show doesn’t really fit into the Federation grouping. She told me to “Call it whatever I wanted.” I thought she was
upset with me but it is hard to write in messenger, which is like texting someone.
The show is part of the WBFF Brand and not a federation or organization. It truly is glamorous and extremely classy. The stage is beautiful with theatrical lighting and concert music unlike any other fitness event.
Some people don’t like that and I understand that. When I started myself I used to get tanned as dark as humanly possible and spray cooking oil on my
body and go out and do most muscular poses to some rock song on stage and I have the pictures to prove it. Thing is as time goes on things evolve and the showmanship and entertaining the audience has always been my goal.
I love fitness and I work like crazy to make this event the best experience for any person entering. My goal is for every single person regardless of placing to know it was the most top-notch event they could participate in.
I’ve
always loved going to concerts and my mother took me to see the band Kiss when I was eight years old. Some people not like the music but most people agree it is one of the best bands to see live in person. I’ve been to tons of other bands concerts but for me I think of the first concert I saw and most can’t top it. Many people don’t like them but the show is outstanding.
The UFC has been hugely successful but I hear people liked it better before it became as showy and
WWE is another huge success that many people miss the years before it blew up.
I have friends that loved Metallica and when one member left and the sound changed they hated the band. I see people post on their Facebook page how they hate the changes they have made. Yet that band is massively successful and more mainstream but they are huge.
I guess I’m writing this trying to say the changes I’ve made are great and while that is my opinion
and yes it turns out to be good business. While I think about how all of these people worked liked crazy for success and when they start to get it the beginning people start to turn and become angry.
Not everyone will agree when things change but personally I don’t fine I get upset with things around me changing. Who knows? I may not like the new Star Wars movie but I’m not going to write on their Facebook page how much I dislike it if that is true – I’ll just move along
with my life and go watch something else.
Some people would say things like “It’s just the haters” but honestly I don’t want haters. I really want people to support what I do – I want every people to look at the hard work and effort and appreciate everything that went into it.
I don’t want haters – I want fans. Sure it is good business but I want people to get their monies worth.
I have a friend that tells me all
the time that “people” don’t care for all the lights, venue and details I put into my show. I feel people deep down do care and I know it matters even though many people don’t say it.
There is something about appreciating people’s success that I think is better than anger and hate.
I’m not trying to get you to like my opinions over other people’s feelings but just to know I put in every last bit if effort I have into doing my best. When people
come to Fitness Atlantic 2016 at Mohegan Sun that this has been 25 years in the making.
Whether someone wants to be on that stage as a contestant or not they should in some way look around and know this event took a ton of work.
Thank You,
Brian Cannone
